Job Description

The Manager, Building Certifications serves as a key member of the Impact Group. The group inspires, supports, and celebrates hundreds of project teams, manufacturers, and organizations that are pursuing our programs and making a positive impact in the world. We grow market adoption of our programs, provide an excellent customer experience, and ensure the integrity of our certification process.

The Manager, Building Certifications is specifically responsible for helping ensure the integrity of ILFI’s building certification process that represents the final phase of Living Building Challenge, Core Green Building Certification, Zero Carbon, and Zero Energy project team journeys. The Living Building Challenge, ILFI’s flagship program, is the world’s most ambitious and holistic performance standard for resilient, healthy, and green buildings. Our suite of programs provides a performance-based approach to demonstrate a commitment to building a healthier world. One of the distinguishing features of ILFI Building certifications is that they rely on a third-party audit to verify a project’s attainment of certification after a performance period.

The Manager interacts with project teams, owners, and ILFI’s auditor network on a regular basis while supporting the evolution of documentation requirements in alignment with the standards. The Manager will play a critical role in helping to guide the ongoing evaluation and iteration of ILFI certification, with a particular focus on the audit process. Through analysis of project data, the Manager will share key insights and outcomes, supporting the transformation of the building sector to better address climate, health and equity issues.

Job Responsibilites

Certification Integrity

  • Adhere to clear guidelines to provide a consistent interpretation of standard requirements in the review of certification documentation.
  • Help qualify, train, and evaluate program auditors to ensure the integrity of the certification process.
  • Manage the audit process including team and auditor communication, audit platform maintenance, report generation, and metric tracking to ensure process consistency.
  • Generate ideas to improve ILFI certification, including process iteration, technology improvements and certification documentation. Collaborate across teams as required to implement changes.

Impact Measurement 

  • Track success stories, road blocks, and lessons learned shared by customers at the conclusion of their certification journey.
  • Mine data from participating organizations for ILFI to analyze the program’s impact on the world.
  • Collaborate with staff to bring customer support insights to our program development process.
  • Provide certified project statistics to help support colleagues involved in program administration, marketing, communications and community engagement.

Customer Access

  • Serve as the primary certification point of contact and manage projects from audit submission to certification ruling.
  • Assist project teams and the assigned auditor with navigating the online certification platforms, tools, resources, and process enhancements to create a user-friendly experience.
  • Monitor the lbc.certification inbox and help answer questions from project teams, and other customers regarding the certification process by email and phone. Questions may range from general to technical, requiring coordination with other ILFI technical staff.
  • Liaison with Special Projects Group to support customized audit pathways.
  • Manage client feedback, working directly with the team leadership to build relationships and resolve customer concerns.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the certification toolkit, certified project case studies, and recognition events to support certified project teams in celebrating their success.

Program Administration

  • Maintain accurate records in Salesforce.
  • Provide monthly reports on certification activity.
  • Ensure excellent certification documentation management.
  • Assist in the budget process by forecasting certification income and auditor fees.
  • Initiate certification invoices and auditor payments.

Qualifications

We know that you may not have all the skills listed below and we encourage you to apply if you meet the majority of the requirements.

  • 3-5+ years of experience with green building certification documentation, certification consulting, environmental analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, public speaking).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport with stakeholders and understand their needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as effectively with a variety of stakeholders representing different organizations, backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Comfortable managing projects and taking initiative on improving workflow.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office and comfort with learning new software applications. Hardware and software will be Mac based.
  • Passion for a socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative future.

Desirable 

  • Undergraduate (or graduate) degree in a related field.
  • Experience with Salesforce (or a similar CRM platform), Asana (or similar project management platform), SurveyMonkey (Apply) and/or Adobe InDesign.
  • Experience working across virtual teams and with remote management.
  • Living Future Accreditation. Candidates who are not already Living Future Accredited will be supported in achieving their LFA within one year.

The salary range for this position is $59,000 – $63,000 and is supplemented by ILFI’s generous benefits package that includes employer-paid health, dental and vision insurance for employees and dependents as well as employee life insurance, short-term disability, and a 403(b) retirement plan with a 6% match after six months. Annual time off benefits include three weeks of paid annual leave, 12 days of sick leave, and paid volunteer time.

ILFI offers a collaborative, team-oriented and mission-driven hybrid workplace, headquartered at the Bullitt Center in Seattle, WA with staff distributed across the United States. All staff are currently working from home, though in the future the Bullitt Center office will be open for staff who wish to work there. We offer a $50/month stipend to offset home internet costs.
