Position Title: New York Campaign Manager, Building Decarbonization Coalition

Position Posting; https://www.buildingdecarb.org/job-opportunities.html

Location: Remote (during COVID); NY-based role (must live in New York)

About the Coalition

The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) unites building industry stakeholders with energy providers, environmental and environmental justice organizations, labor and workforce stakeholders and local governments to help electrify homes and workspaces with clean energy. Through convening, policy analysis, and consumer awareness building, the Coalition is pursuing fast, fair action to accelerate the development of zero-emission homes and buildings that will help New York cut one of its largest sources of climate pollution, while creating safe, healthy and affordable communities.

Burning fossil fuels for heating and cooking poses a serious threat to our health and the planet — making buildings and homes the largest source of climate pollution in the world. In New York, buildings are responsible for one-third of the state’s climate pollution, yet we’ve had no clear plan to address these emissions. Until now.

New York state has mandated bold emissions targets across the economy through the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, and has advanced the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA’s) Buildings Decarbonization Roadmap. Moving New York homes and buildings off of fossil fuels will improve public health, cut climate pollution, deliver cleaner air, and alleviate rising housing prices and monthly energy bills, all while creating tremendous economic and job creation opportunities. To get there, we are activating strong leadership from communities, manufacturing and government.

In this newly created position, the New York Campaign Manager will support BDC’s vision and play a key role in advancing our work in New York. Reporting to the New York Director and working collaboratively with a small but rapidly growing team, the New York Campaign Manager will play a critical role in the evolution of the Coalition from its start-up stage to a more mature organization that can deliver powerfully on its long-term vision. Specifically, the Campaign Manager is responsible for campaigns development and design and implementing local- and state-level strategy.

Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Participate actively in the development of the Coalition’s overarching strategic plan for New York and ensure campaigns are coordinated and fully embedded into other BDC priorities.

  • Determine the need for and facilitate regionally-focused working groups to advance building decarbonization within the state and advance the priorities of new statewide and local campaigns.
  • Work in coalition, create and draft materials for campaigns, track pertinent proceedings, and serve as a point person with policymakers and regulators.
  • Partner with the New York Director to support fundraising and other revenue-generating efforts, including memberships and strategic partnerships that help drive support for the Coalition’s state-based work.

  • Partner with the New York Director and Director of Communications to ensure a strong communications strategy in support of campaigns, including but not limited to developing our messaging strategy and written materials to advance campaign goals, supporting the development of long-term and rapid-response messaging to advance campaign outcomes, organizing diverse spokespeople to tell the campaign’s stories, and establishing ongoing relationships with media and consumer influencers.
  • Support the implementation of communications and thought leadership pieces such as op-eds, blogs, and speaking roles.
