Overall Function

Environmental Defense Fund is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to direct the community engagement landscape analysis and provide support for programmatic Community Collaboration at EDF.  The Senior Research Analyst is responsible for research and gathering information to determine the community footprint of EDF domestically and developing recommendations to increase consistency in presence, efficiency of resources and reduction of internal overlap of programs. Responsible for instituting and maintaining the EDF community engagement landscape analysis and reports to the Vice President (VP) of the Office of Community Collaboration.  Independent judgment is important and required to plan, prioritize and organize your workload within this busy program. The position requires an individual with a can-do attitude who understands how to get things done in a large, complex organization through influence and collaboration. It is also essential that the person have strong writing and communication skills, and to handle sensitive and confidential information. Ideal candidates are driven self-starters with the ability to grasp administrative processes quickly and work well within a team.  This is an excellent opportunity to use core business and administrative skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement internal procedures to identify the current community engagement landscape for EDF.
  • Internal and external research to prepare reports of findings, illustration of data graphically and into written materials; respond to information requests and help coordinate and track activities of the EDF community engagement efforts.
  • Attend staff meetings & conferences as needed to provide community collaboration team with information and be able to document, identify and track key takeaways, next steps, including research needs.
  • Seek and provide information from programs to assist in their community engagement projects and meet overall EDF community collaborations principles.
  • Devise and evaluate methods and procedures for collecting data such as surveys, opinion polls, etc., as well as obtaining and cataloging existing data for ease of use across the US Domestic team.
  • Develop measurement tools to assess community collaboration efforts and progress.
  • Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills by responding to requests for information, helping to coordinate activities and projects for the Community Collaboration office.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values

Qualifications

  • At least four years of professional experience with a B.A., advanced degree with at least two years’ or 8 years of community/social science/civic engagement experience. Climate/Environment focus preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating intersecting issues, including but not limited to, climate policy, public health, clean energy, workforce development, equity, and environmental justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research and technical analysis with the ability to translate said research in economic, regulatory, scientific and civic community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee complex projects and to work collaboratively across programs in a complex multidisciplinary organization.
  • Creativity, energy, and the ability to multi-task and get work done under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational, administration skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior skills in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Presence, confidence and integrity.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a strong team player, while at the same time able to work independently and as a self-starter.
