Position Title: Vice President for Clean Energy, David Gardiner and Associates (DGA)

Location: Based in Arlington, VA office and requires only minimal travel.

Position Overview

The Vice President for Clean Energy will be responsible for leading DGA’s efforts to work with Fortune 500 leaders, non-profit organizations, foundations and start-ups to advance clean energy and for its work managing Americans for a Clean Energy Grid. The Vice President will develop and execute strategies, advocate for federal and state clean energy policies, develop business for the firm, conduct and oversee research and analysis, shape communications efforts, manage projects, and build partnerships among diverse parties, as well as other duties to support the firm’s mission. The Vice President is a member of DGA’s senior management team and manages two staff people. This position reports directly to the President. The Vice President’s projects will typically involve work on:

  • Renewable electricity and electric transmission and collaboration with others at DGA on electric vehicles, combined heat and power, renewable thermal energy, and other lowcarbon technologies.
  • Federal and state policies to advance those technologies.
  • Corporate best practices.
  • Clean energy markets and their relationship to climate change, economic development, consumer benefits, and job creation.

Core Duties

  • Strategy – Develop and implement strategies, including corporate plans to scale up clean energy use and advocacy and lobbying strategies for clean energy government policy.
  • Research and Analysis – Oversee the development of DGA research reports. Develop research methodologies and gather data and information through interviews, internet/hard copy documents, and other sources.
  • Communications – Develop communications strategies and oversee or author reports or presentations to be shared with select groups or published for public consumption. Develop partnerships between diverse organizations, including companies, environmental organizations and other non-profits, state and federal policymakers, trade associations, utilities, clean energy developers and investors. Lobby federal, state, and local governments.
  • Project Leadership and Marketing – Develop and oversee relationships with DGA’s current or prospective clients, lead projects, and market DGA, including developing proposals and other marketing materials for clients.
  • Management – Manage the status and progress of projects, including budgets, and a small staff.

Position Requirements

  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience, with demonstrated working knowledge of and practical experience with clean energy issues.
  • Demonstrated leadership, advocacy and project management skills, coupled with excellent political skills and expertise.
  • Expertise in clean energy, including policy, markets, and its role in corporate and other institutional sustainability efforts.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Strong decision-making ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to work in a team or independently and be proactive.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and high-quality deliverables.
  • A graduate degree in policy, business, law or field related to climate change, clean energy, or sustainability.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$140,000. Other benefits include health insurance, retirement, and transportation benefits, paid vacation, sick days, and paid holidays as outlined in the DGA Policy & Procedures Handbook.
