The Connecticut Green Bank (hereafter “Green Bank”) is seeking an Associate to join its growing Environmental Infrastructure Programs team.
The Associate, Environmental Infrastructure Programs will provide critical support to the Green Bank’s new Environmental Infrastructure business unit. The Associate will be tasked with supporting the Environmental Infrastructure team, Director, and Green Bank colleagues with the operations, design, implementation, and oversight of new programs to deploy environmental infrastructure in the state with a focus on decarbonization and climate resilience. A core goal of this business unit is ensuring increased investment in vulnerable communities, as defined by Connecticut Public Act 20-05.
We are a quasi-public authority and the nation’s first state-level “Green Bank,” leveraging public funds to increase and accelerate private investment in the green economy of Connecticut. This position will build on Green Bank’s first 10 years of success and apply our successful model pioneered for clean energy to new areas for environmental infrastructure, related to climate adaptation and resiliency, agriculture, land conservation, parks and recreation, waste and recycling, water, and environmental markets. The Associate will support the Environmental Infrastructure Programs team in the successful execution of new programs and initiatives, including planning, ongoing operations, administration, implementation, and evaluation. The successful candidate will be a flexible member of the team who can respond to needs as they arise, from conducting overview research to helping track deliverables across the environmental infrastructure business unit. This position will be a junior member of the team with lots of opportunity for growth as the business unit expands.
Examples of Duties
Individual responsibilities will include:
  • Overarching: Supporting the Environmental Infrastructure Programs team and Director to grow the business unit, including ensuring that no less than 40 percent of investment and benefits from such programs are directed towards vulnerable communities.
  • Core Function: Effectively coordinating and maintaining systems and processes to deliver against comprehensive plan targets and to produce quantifiable climate adaptation and resilience and decarbonization benefits. Supporting the effective collaboration across the Environmental Infrastructure Programs team and with internal and external partners (e.g. vendors, awardees, advisory committee(s), etc.). Helping to track and prepare deliverables, coordinate agendas, capture meeting minutes and next steps.
  • Marketing and Communication: Working with the Green Bank Marketing team to develop strategies to increase awareness of and support for environmental infrastructure programs and projects and especially transaction origination. Maintaining the Environmental Infrastructure Programs team’s Salesforce platform. Helping to develop language, presentations, and other materials for meetings, webinars, and in-person events.
  • Raising Resources: Supporting fundraising efforts, inclusive of prospect research, grant writing, pitch materials, and background research.
  • Continuous Improvement: Pursuing improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Environmental Infrastructure Programs business unit to enhance performance and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The overall duties of this position will be refined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the individual hired and the ongoing needs of the team.
Minimum Qualifications Required
The following minimum qualifications in knowledge, skill, and ability are required:
  • Solid knowledge and experience in environmental infrastructure, conservation financing, or community development;
  • Ability to work both as a contributor and a facilitator towards a team’s goals;
  • Proven ability to achieve or exceed targets and deadlines while improving operations;
  • Ability to understand social and ecological principles and financial market dynamics and to integrate them into strategies and actions;
  • Ability to work with external stakeholders including strong facilitation and coordination skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to communicate and market the benefits of environmental infrastructure financing products;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Comfort with uncertainty and an inclination to prevent or solve problems;
  • Ability to anticipate and/or ascertain the needs of partners and stakeholders;
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce is highly desirable.
Experience and Training 
 
General Experience:
  • Minimum four (4) years of employment experience with demonstrated responsibilities related to the qualifications outlined above.
Substitutions Allowed
  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university granted in a related field (e.g., environmental science, community planning, conservation resource management) may be substituted for two (2) years of minimum experience.
  • A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one additional year of minimum experience.
The Green Bank will determine if this position will be filled at the Associate or Senior Associate level based on the experience and qualifications of the individual selected.

Employment Details
  • This position reports to the Director, Environmental Infrastructure Programs.
  • It is expected that the position will be based in our Hartford, CT or Stamford, CT offices, with the opportunity for some remote work.
  • State of CT benefits package, including generous time-off, health insurance covering medical, dental and vision, retirement, student loan reimbursement, tuition reimbursement for continuing education, and paid leave.
  • Expected salary ranges from $65,000 – $75,000, but the final salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
