About This Role
This is a temporary position to support Climate Power’s work through the election cycle. It is expected that this role will end November 30, 2024.
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Senior Advisor who will work across the organization and with key allies to lead a data-driven campaign informed by audience and message research to build a durable Black Engagement program that reaches and educates voters about climate and clean energy progress, mobilizes them in support of climate champions in the 2024 election, and sets the foundation for a long-term strategy and commitment to Black voter engagement at Climate Power.
This role will report to the Deputy Executive Director, En Accion & Special Projects, and work closely with our Black Engagement and Community Building (internal) working groups. Additionally, this Senior Advisor will be responsible for building and managing a team of staff and consultants to execute this work.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with senior leadership, staff, and consultants to build and execute a comprehensive strategy to engage and mobilize the Black community in support of climate action and the clean energy economy.
  • Identify and establish partnerships with key community organizations, influencers, and leaders to expand the campaign’s reach and impact.
  • Advise on culturally sensitive and inclusive campaign practices, ensuring that the campaign’s activities are respectful and responsive to the needs of the Black community.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of the campaign’s efforts on Black voter turnout and support and recommend necessary adjustments to optimize effectiveness.
  • Work with other members of the senior leadership team to oversee a cross-departmental approach to mitigate the impact of climate and clean energy disinformation on Black voters.
  • Work with other Climate Power teams to plan and execute additional tactics for voter outreach, including influencer marketing, events, and earned media.
  • Work closely with consultants, the Director of Insights, and other members of the senior leadership team to develop and manage testing and research agenda and measure the success of voter outreach programs.
  • Working with the Communications and  Political teams, seek opportunities to facilitate further investment in climate and clean energy messaging as a tool for engaging and mobilizing voters, including by sharing Climate Power’s insights, strategy, and resources with key allies.
  • Represent Climate Power in external meetings, public events, and donor communications.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.
Essential Qualifications
  • 10 ten years of political experience, including electoral or issue advocacy experience; leading work with partners and allied organizations and coalitions across the progressive community; experience working with climate and environmental groups preferred.
  • 5 years of people and/or project management experience; expertise in leading departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.
  • Paid media experience.
  • Experience engaging and mobilizing Black voters.
  • Must be a strategic thinker and partner with the Senior Leadership Team and able to communicate and action organizational goals, strategies, and tactics.
  • Ability to adapt plans seamlessly – and rally others to adapt – in response to changing priorities and circumstances.
  • Collaborative leader; excellent judgment in navigating complex issues, building consensus, and making and articulating strategic decisions.

Location & Hours of Operations
Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC. This position can be located anywhere in the United States, but must be able to work Monday – Friday 9 am – 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates.
Our Hiring Timeline and Process
We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will continue to interview until the position is filled (posting will remain up until the position is filled).
An ideal start date would be April 30, 2024. This is a temporary position and is expected to run through November 30, 2024.
Our interview process generally involves 3 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes.   All interviews will be conducted via Google Meets or Zoom. Successful candidates who move forward in the hiring process will be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive compensation) and undergo a vetting process, including reference and background checks to ensure cultural and political alignment.
